Bear Stearns, which was established in 1923, is one of the leading global investment banking, securities trading and brokerage firm. It currently employs approximately 12,000 people worldwide. Headquartered in New York City, the firm has offices in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Juan. In addition to London, it maintains an international presence with offices in Beijing, Dublin, Hong Kong, Lugano, Milan, São Paulo, Shanghai, Singapore, and Tokyo.

Bear Stearns had total capital of $57.6 billion (as of February 28, 2006) and total assets of $292.6 billion (as of November 30, 2005) and according to the April 2005 issue of Institutional Investor magazine, Bear Stearns is the seventh largest securities firm in terms of total capital.
